The Metron Master

Students will demonstrate the ability to measure matter involving 2 variables e.g. speed (ms-1) or density (g/cm3) or pulse rate (bpm)

Skills range:

Measure two variables and use them to calculate a property such as speed or density

Possible equipment:

  • Stopwatch
  • Ruler
  • Scales
  • Measuring cylinder
  • Thermometer

Criteria:

  1. Select two pieces of correct equipment
  2. Accurately read from both scales
  3. Select correct units for measurement
  4. Calculate a property with appropriate units using these two numbers
  5. Record your measurements

Context:

This skill is practical-based and therefore needs to be observed by a teacher/mentor/technician by using appropriate laboratory equipment and showing appropriate calculations.

Safety

Reading labels

Conscious of actions in the lab environment

Knowledge of hazards
