To unlock this credential you need to demonstrate that you have gained knowledge of your whakapapa through your genealogy and your connection to the land. You need to identify your connection to:
whenua / land
- tūrangawaewae / place to stand
- maunga / mountain
- awa / river
- moana / sea
- roto / lake
tangata / people:
- iwi / tribe
- hapu / subtribe
- marae / meeting place
whanau / family:
- tīpuna / grandparents
- mātua / parents
- tuakana teina / siblings
All these elements lead into you and you finish your pepeha by introducing yourself.

CONTEXT
This badge can be unlocked in a variety of contexts, for example, in Year 7 Māori class or during whanau time at school. It is most appropriate to share your pepeha when meeting people for the first time.
This knowledge must be demonstrated in a verbal capacity, by speaking your pepeha.
